Detail
Nestled at the foot of snow-capped mountains in eastern Turkey lies the scenic freshwater lake of Arın. Located near the city of Bitlis in Bitlis Province, it emerges from streams flowing from surrounding peaks over 2,500 meters tall. Fringed by pine forests and reed beds, Lake Arın's azure waters provide a tranquil setting amid dramatic scenery.
A hiking trail circles the shoreline through woodlands dotted with wildflowers. Over 170 bird species inhabit the trees, including storks and pelicans. Small coves offer spots to swim in the cool waters or enjoy lakeside picnics with panoramic mountain views.
As a protected area, the lake ecosystem supports rich biodiversity year-round. Along with migratory waterfowl, endemic fish and frogs thrive. Basic campsites allow overnight appreciation of dazzling stars over the lunar landscape.
Requiring around a two hour drive from Bitlis on winding mountain roads, Lake Arın rewards visitors with raw natural beauty off the beaten track in Eastern Anatolia. Spring and autumn present mild weather for hiking through alpine meadows and conifer forests.
